Artist-info

Prince Polo aka Billy Szeflinski, is a Brooklyn based dub producer, musician, and engineer, following in the tradition of reggae producers like King Tubby and Henry "Junjo" Lawes. He has been making a name for himself in the reggae scene since the late 90's as a writer/performer/and producer, and has recently been gaining recognition for his progressive approach to recording and mixing reggae and dub music. As a sound engineer at The Kennel Studios in Bushwick, he's been the man behind the board for live and studio sessions with such artists as Lee Scratch Perry, Eek a Mouse, Destroy Babylon, I Wayne, Rebelution, The Expendables, and Ultra-magnetic MCs, just to name a few. Prince Polo is also a member of the Brooklyn Dub Rockers, The Cool & Deadly. As a drummer, he toured with them nationally in support of their 2009 LP, Rude Boys Revenge. In 2010, he explored new realms of dub and science with the infusion of a horn section, Dub Select, featuring Troy Sims and Omar Little from the Mobius Collective and Lee Scratch Perry. Incorporating the horn section in the studio as well as in live performances has expanded the versatility of the overall sound and pushed the boundaries of the dub genre. Shortly after getting together, the group made their first official release as part of the Future Sound of Reggae, a collaboration album through Hollywood actress Mena Suvari. The song "Digital Dancing" was featured on the release and added to Sirius Satellite Radio reggae station The Joint. Their evolutionary approach to Jamaican Roots, Digital Dub, and Cumbia, can be heard on the upcoming LP Brooklyn Bodega, which will be available via DubShot Records summer of 2011. The live shows are done in the style of Mad Professor. It features Polo on the mixing board, Dub Select on the horns and controls, and occasional guest singers, deejays, and musicians. As he puts it "It's like taking a little bit of the studio to the stage, I love the live sound system aspect to it" It is a live dub experience that is not to be missed. In addition to a regular touring schedule, Prince Polo is pulling double duty as the chief engineer for the Cali-Rockers project with VP/Greensleeves Records. The project is focusing on the collaborations within in the reggae genre that is transcending boarders and boundaries, and will feature artists like Inner Circle, Slightly Stoopid, Capleton, Fishbone, Bad Brains, and more.
